BEIJING,20th April, 2026 (WAM) — A humanoid robot competing against flesh-and-blood runners has broken the world record at a Beijing half-marathon, showcasing the rapid technological advancements achieved by Chinese makers. The winning humanoid, equipped with an autonomous navigation system and running for Chinese smartphone maker Honor, completed the roughly 21km (13-mile) course in 50 minutes and 26 seconds, at an average speed of about 25km/h (15.5mph), according to state broadcaster CCTV. BEIJING,20th April, 2026 (WAM) — China’s one-year loan prime rate (LPR), a market-based benchmark lending rate, came in at 3% Monday, unchanged from the previous month, Xinhua news agency reported. The over-five-year LPR, on which many lenders base their mortgage rates, also remained unchanged from the previous reading of 3.5%, according to the National Interbank Funding Centre. DUBAI, 19 April (WAM) –Dubai Police have successfully rescued two tourists who suffered from exhaustion while hiking in the Hatta mountains. The hikers had become stranded on steep mountain trails and were unable to proceed. The operation was initiated following a distress call received by the Command and Control Centre, following which rescue units from Hatta Police Station were dispatched in coordination with the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services. A 2.0-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the UAE, according to the National Seismic Network of National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). The tremor occurred in Al Halah at 9.15pm UAE time on April 19 with a depth of 3.9km, according to NCM. The latest event comes amid a series of minor seismic activities recorded in the region in recent months. On January 3, a 2.2-magnitude earthquake was reported south of Musandam at 10:43am UAE time.
