SHARJAH, 23rd August, 2026 (WAM) — The University of Sharjah (UoS) has launched an institution-wide initiative to review and enhance its academic programmes and courses using artificial intelligence and an outcomes-based education (OBE) model.
The initiative targets faculty members across all colleges, equipping them with advanced skills to restructure and modernise curricula using AI tools while aligning courses with clearly defined learning outcomes.
It forms part of UoS’ efforts to build an educational ecosystem that responds to rapid technological change and evolving labour-market requirements while promoting the responsible use of AI and innovation in teaching.
Prof. Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, said, “This programme is a natural extension of the University of Sharjah’s overall strategy, which stems from the vision of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University.”
He described AI as a strategic enabler for advancing teaching, research and community service, adding that investing in faculty development and strengthening their ability to design modern academic programmes are key pillars of the university’s strategy.
Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, UoS aims to develop an academic model combining excellence and innovation while preparing graduates with the knowledge and skills required for a rapidly changing world.
Prof. Nouar Tabet, Acting Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, said the initiative goes beyond conventional training and forms part of a collaborative project involving faculty across the university.
The project includes a detailed evaluation of existing academic programmes and the redesign of most of them to better align with business-sector requirements and equip students with advanced future-ready competencies.
Prof. Maher Omar, Director of the Institute for Leadership in Higher Education and coordinator of the initiative, said the programme was developed in line with global best practices and uses advanced AI applications to support course design and development.
He said the approach is based on collaboration between faculty and AI, with academic responsibility remaining with faculty members while technology is used to accelerate analysis and generate educational resources.
The programme focuses on strengthening faculty capabilities to address AI-related challenges and use the technology responsibly and ethically. Participants are being trained to analyse and redesign courses according to targeted learning outcomes and develop digital learning resources tailored to different subjects and student needs.
Faculty members from all colleges are participating in intensive practical workshops led by experts and specialists.
UoS said the initiative is expected to establish an integrated institutional model for redesigning academic programmes and courses across disciplines, enhancing educational quality, graduate readiness and the development of a more flexible, innovative and sustainable teaching ecosystem.
